Big Island Hawaii Vacation Highlights
Why make the Big Island Your Choice?
-
Don't forget the beautiful Big Island beaches!
With all the attention on that volcano, the fact that the Big Island has a lot of great beaches gets forgotten. One not to miss - Kekaha Kai Park, on the Kona side, which includes Mahaiʻula Beach, Makalawena Beach and Kua Bay. The ocean looks like crystal clear blue glass, making it a prime place for snorkelers (See Pic). There's nothing like looking down at the depths as you revel in the waters.

The Best Snorkeling in Hawaii is on the Big Island!
The title of 'Best Snorkeling in Hawaii' isn't just opinion, it's a matter of scientific fact! The Big Island is geologically younger, which means less sand in the waters and reefs that are still very much alive. Those lower sand levels makes the visibility, ie your view underwater, exceptionally clear. That's exactly what you want in a snorkeling spot and the Big Island's got it! The Black Sand Beach of Punaluu is something you must see now, before it washes away forever.
This is one of the wonders created by Kilauea's eruptions. The sand is actually lava rock ground down by the ocean, the entire beach created in a single volcanic event. Wear shoes though, because black sand holds the heat of the sun much more than our golden varieties. It's important to realize this is something that exists only temporarily. The ocean slowly erodes it away. See it while you can!

Explore the lush Waipio Valley!
There's also an abundance of Hawaii's calmer beauty to revel in as well. Waipio Valley is one such place where waterfalls, ocean views, lush trails through jungle areas and uniquely Hawaiian taro patches are ready to welcome you. There's even choices of how to experience it - on foot, horseback or even by wagon. All go at an appropriate pace to drink in an untouched piece of paradise. Tour Waipio Valley by ATV or on Horseback!

The Big Island was made for Off-Roading!
The vast landscape of the Big Island also have made it a fantastic place for off-roading and ATV driving. The rugged terrain raises the bar on
the fun and adventure you can have at a variety of sites spread out across this isle. A couple of the best ones take you on ATV tours of Big Island Ocean Cliffs or see the wonders of Waipio Valley on an ATV, including a waterfall swim! -
Kailua Village - A Center of Big Island History & Culture
Stroll around this special part of Kailua-Kona and you'll see something special. From Hulihee Palace (in pic) to the old Mokuaikaua Church and even the Ahuena Heiau, an Ancient Hawaiian site rebuilt by King Kamehameha himself! This is where the Uniter of the Islands spent his last years, in the place that was truly home for him. Take historic waking tours or just stroll the sights at your own pace. Immerse yourself in the Big Island culture & history. There's no wrong way to enjoy this wonderful place.
