For those less skilled with a surfboard, there's still a lot of good reasons to head up here. The North Shore is a throwback to the Hawaii of old, complete with tight two-lane roads, vintage wooden storefronts and the sounds of roosters crowing. Stopping to get a shave ice, usually from Matsumoto's, is a ritual that all follow.
Arizona Memorial - A Place of Power & Remembrance
The Power of this memorial is of a different sort. It's the strength of mourning & memory, never to forget those lost in only a few short hours. Gaze down on the USS Arizona in its resting place, where it has laid since the attack, some of its crew entombed inside. Kailua - The Small Town with the Best Beach in America
A visit to Kailua is always a good idea. Not just for its beach, repeat winner of the 'America's Best Beach' title, but for the trip alone. From Waikiki you must go over the green, green Koolau Mountains. Pull over at the Pali Lookout where you'll get a stunning view of east Oahu, all the way to the ocean. Once you pull yourself away, it's time to enjoy Kailua's many great local eateries & boutique shops.
Polynesian Cultural Center - An Incredible Journey Thru Polynesia
Up the coast from there you'll come to one of the biggest attractions in all Hawaii - the Polynesian Cultural Center. Definitely reserve a full day for this. You'll be fully immersed in the cultures of not only Hawaii, but Tahiti, Samoa and other South Pacific Islands. There's also a show that's possibly the very best you'll see anywhere of the music and dancing from these societies. It's truly unique.
